3rd Grade
Overview
In third grade students discover God's Truths in all subject areas. The students will be developing and strengthening their reading, writing, problem solving, and independent work skills necessary for a successful educational experience. Our primary goal is to be faithful to our Lord Jesus Christ and to grow in knowledge and obedience to Him. Our focus is to apply our Biblical knowledge to the life problems experienced and exhibit a heart of love and service for all people.

Bible
Growing With God (Positive Action For Christ)
Students will learn about the rewards of living for God by exploring the lives of Abraham, Jacob, Joseph and Daniel.
Reading
Scott Foresman Reading
A basal reading program designed to develop the attitudes and abilities necessary to become successful readers. Designed to develop a broad vocabulary base; strengthen comprehension skills with questions and creative writing activities and extend the language arts skills with guided and independent workbook pages. Library trips, book reports, and Accelerated Reading are also included in the program.
Novel: Charlotte's Web E. B. White
Language
English, Level 3 (Scott Foresman Reading)
Master basic grammar and mechanical language skills necessary for effective written and oral language; teach the writing process through direct instruction and modeling. A poetry unit includes writing, illustrating and typing a book of 3rd grade poems.
Spelling and Vocabulary, Level 3 (Scott Foresman Reading)
Develop reliable spelling strategies that can apply to both familiar and unfamiliar words; become aware of a rich network of spelling-meanings.
Handwriting Without Tears (HWT)
This program continues to develop word and sentence skills while emphasizing practice with smaller size writing. Transition to single line writing is also included.
Mathematics
Mathematics, Grade 3 (A Beka)
Reinforce addition and subtraction facts, understand time and money; master multiplication/division facts 0-12; develop problem solving skills, learn to analyze data and draw logical conclusions; prepare students for understanding basic geometry; understand fractions and decimals
Science
Harcourt Science
Students gain a fuller understanding of the amazing complexity and orderliness of God's world, and a deeper awareness of His goodness and power. Provides creative learning experiences through hands-on experiments. Units studied include water, the earth's resources and recycling, weather and simple machines.
Social Studies
Our American Heritage (A Beka)
Students will be introduced to basic map skills. The curriculum emphasizes patriotism, character development and a survey of American History in a Christian perspective through the biographies of great Americans. We end by hosting a wax museum of American Heroes.
